Touch is one of Europe’s leading studios for retouch, scanning, proofing and fine art printing. We work closely with a range of clients: whether we’re supporting photographers on editorials and exhibitions or collaborating with agencies and brands on global campaigns, Touch provide an unmatched service driven by our passion for photography.
Founded in 1999, at a time when the photographic industry was in transition from the analogue world to the digital, we still see ourselves as a digital alternative to the darkroom, using the latest technology to compliment our knowledge of traditional photographic techniques. Many of the photographers we work with are still shooting on film, and our scanners have never been busier. We aim to give photographers the feel of a traditional hand print, however they’ve captured their pictures. We believe that our hand in an image should be imperceivable, our clients demand a natural feel to their imagery, whether that be a fashion editorial or a multi part composite for an advertising campaign. Sometimes, what we leave in is just as important as what we take away.
Our studio is in London, a 2000 square foot space custom designed for our needs with private colour-managed workspaces, scanning room and print area. We welcome photographers and art directors to sit in with our team as they work, whether that be refining a colour grade on screen or discussing and marking up proofs around our print table. But we are just as comfortable working remotely with clients in different cities, proofs can be printed and delivered on the same day in New York and our dedicated fibre line means that large files can be downloaded directly from our servers. We offer pre-shoot advice to ensure things go as smoothly as possible in post, and if required we can provide on-set retouching and support.
As part of our colour-managed workflow, we use GMG software to print certified proofs to all current FOGRA, GRACoL and SWOP standards on a choice of proofing papers. For fine art printing we use wide colour gamut printers combined with our custom built paper profiles to create stunning archival pigment prints on a selection of photographic and art papers. Our dedicated black and white printer uses carbon pigments to re-produce beautiful, neutral, monochrome images. Prints from our studio have hung in some of the world’s most prestigious galleries.
Touch was founded by Graeme Bulcraig. As of May 2015 he has been joined by Emma Tunstill and Ben Pickett as fellow Directors of the company.
